/ about the studio / Baldwin, NY

small studio. big close-ups.

We started Tamarack & Twine because great skincare was getting buried under bad lighting. You make the formula. We make sure people can see it.

/ the origin

it began with a jar of whipped butter and a bad flash.

Hands arranging a frosted jar and a tamarack sprig on seamless paper beside a softbox

e watched a friend pour a year into a body butter that felt like clouds, then post it under a bathroom light with the label washed out by glare. Nobody lingered. The formula deserved better than a thumbnail nobody could read.

So we built a studio around one idea: a maker should never need to relocate a product, hire a crew or learn a lighting grid to look like the real thing. You pack a box. We take it from there, directing the shoot with you live, over video, from our table in Baldwin.

a tamarack is a tree that sheds its needles and comes back gold. that’s the brief for every launch.

The twine is the other half of the name: the plain cord that ties a sample box shut and carries it to our door. Everything we make begins at that knot. Stills, texture close-ups and 15–30 second video ads, retouched and cut for the shop page, the feed and the ad slot.

Sharpen your launch date. Fill the box. We’ll bring the light.

/ what we hold ourselves to

three rules taped above the light table.

Short enough to remember mid-shoot, firm enough to settle an argument about a highlight.

  1. rule one

    the label gets read.

If a stranger can’t read your name at thumbnail size, the frame isn’t done. We tune the softbox angle until glare leaves the type and the texture stays alive.

  2. rule two

    texture is the star.

Swirl, drip, dollop, peak. We shoot a swatch smear and a dropper macro before any hero shot, because the formula’s feel sells before the bottle does.

  3. rule three

you’re in the room, even from afar.

Every shoot is directed live on a video call, weekdays between 10am and 7pm. You point, we move the light. Then you get two full rounds of edit notes before final files ship.

/ inside the studio

what’s on the table when your box arrives.

the key light

1 softbox

one source, shaped by hand

We light almost everything with a single softbox and a set of white and black cards. One source gives your product one shadow, which is why the frames feel calm and the glass looks like glass.

the surfaces

paper, linen, stone, wood

Seamless paper in your brand’s color, a scrap of linen, a slab of grey stone, a board of pale ash. You choose two; we dress the set around them.

the retouch desk

dust off, never wash out

We clean fingerprints, lint and label scuffs, then stop. Your cream still looks like cream, not plastic.

the edit bay

15 seconds that earn the next three

Video cuts are paced for the scroll: a texture open, a hero beat, a caption that works with the sound off. Delivered 9:16 and 1:1.
